Harrisburg Puppy Obedience Training

A new puppy is an exciting time for you and your family, but it also brings a lot of responsibility. With so much for puppies to learn and explore, pet owners need to set boundaries for behavior. Greenlin Puppy Obedience Training uses proven methodology, quality care, and experienced staff to help your pet master life-long skills.

Puppy Training

The first year in a dog’s life, and especially the first six months, are a critical time in their learning and development. This early development is the foundation for their behavior and training, and the habits they learn during this time can shape their behavior for the remainder of their lives.

During their formative years, puppies are engaging with their surroundings — and, at times, getting into things that they shouldn’t! It is integral to give your new puppy boundaries and teach them how to behave as expected in various situations. Doing this with respect to their natural drivers of behavior will enable them to feel more confident, helping stymie the development of fears and anxieties that may make it hard for them to socialize. Early-life training can help your dog best learn the expectations of life in your family, preventing unwanted behaviors while encouraging confidence and a calm disposition in your dog.

FREE Training Evaluation for Your First Visit!

Every puppy obedience training enrollee can benefit from a complimentary first-day session. During this session, we will evaluate your puppy's current social skills and training level, and we will also listen to the goals you wish to set as an owner. With this information in hand, we can craft a one-of-a-kind training program to maximize results while accommodating your puppy's unique motivators.

A Puppy Training Option for Every Need

According to animal health experts, training and socialization are the most critical throughout the first year of life. Exposure to different environments, people, and animals can help create friendly, happy dogs. Research shows that taking puppies to socialization classes decreases the chance of behavioral problems and better provides your puppy with tools to cope in future situations.

Because we know every puppy and family is different, we offer various training options. These include preparation for the American Kennel Club S.T.A.R. certification, daycare stay & play programs, or an overnight training stay in the Puppy Academy boot camp.

AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program

For those who wish to set their training goals to a high standard for future success, The American Kennel Club (AKC)’s S.T.A.R. Puppy Program promotes early training and responsible dog ownership. It is available for puppies one year or younger, and all participants must be up-to-date on vaccinations.

This program focuses on teaching you how to best communicate with your puppy. Achieving a S.T.A.R. puppy distinction can best prepare a pet for the AKC Canine Good Citizen Program that can be earned in your dog’s adulthood.

The S.T.A.R. puppy course is made up of six sessions taught in a group setting. However, groups are always kept small to ensure each puppy can get the attention they deserve.

Once you and your pup have completed the program and passed the exam, you will receive a frame-worthy certificate, an AKC handbook, and your dog will be listed in the database of AKC S.T.A.R. graduates.

Puppy Academy

Another training option available is the Puppy Academy. This program, available for puppies under six months old and up-to-date on vaccinations, combines boarding with training. Your puppy will enjoy a packed day full of activities, exercise, engagement, and new learning. The accelerated program allows puppies to rapidly integrate into their new family while saving owners countless amounts of stress and heartache that can come with attempting puppy training on your busy schedule.

In general, dogs thrive on routine because they know what to expect and what is going to happen next. The Puppy Academy curriculum is designed with this in mind and has a set schedule and daily routines that are followed each day. This consistency also helps them best learn skills, enabling them to focus their attention on learning while adjusting to a highly engaged routine.

With Puppy Academy, you can leave your puppy for ten days or more, making it perfect for times when you need the house to yourself or when you may be traveling. Of course, if you are in town, you are always welcome to come by, check up on their progress, and receive a demonstration of what skills they have been building!

Day Play and Train

The Day Play and Train program is an excellent choice for dog owners who want to send their puppy to daycare while at work or otherwise engaged during the day. Your canine will benefit from exercise and socialization opportunities, but they can also receive training to keep their minds occupied, creating a happier and more well-rounded pet.

Because training is a life-long habit, this daycare setting will allow your dog to receive constant reinforcement to refresh and sharpen their skills. Each dog is different, so an experienced trainer will work with you to establish which skills your dog needs and your goals for training so your dog can thrive happily within your family.

Greenlin Training

The goal of Greenlin training, regardless of the program, is to teach puppies self-regulation. Attaining this skill allows them to stay calm and composed while awaiting further direction from their owners when they are in unfamiliar situations. They will be introduced to basic commands, such as come, sit, stay, lie down, stop and drop it.

Once puppies have a firm grasp on the basic commands, training will introduce a new environment and distractions to challenge your dog and ensure they perform as expected, even in complicated situations. Distractions could include distance and the presence of temptations, like food.

A common area of stress for dogs is apprehension toward strangers. According to the Journal of Veterinary Medical Science, puppies that attended training classes were more likely to respond to strangers positively. Therefore, dealing with Greenlin’s friendly and experienced staff regularly will help your puppy to be flexible and friendly in a variety of settings.

Our large locations feature sprawling, double-fenced outdoor green space and an indoor play gym sanitized daily. Top-of-the-line air purifiers have also been installed to keep dust, dander, and pet hair at bay within the facility so our guests can breathe fresh air. Every staff member has been trained in both First-Aid and CPR techniques for small animals. Your puppy is in safe hands at Greenlin as they are constantly supervised and engaging in fun, educational learning.
